Workshops in ceramics, drawing & painting, fibers, jewelry, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture and creative writing are part of the core offerings. The unique Native American Arts program gives students the opportunity to work intensively with renown Native American artists. Summer Poetry in Idyllwild is a weeklong festival of poetry that includes intensive writing workshops, lectures and nightly readings by nationally known poets. Visiting poets have included Lucille Clifton, Billy Collins, Galway Kinnell, Carolyn Kizer, Sharon Olds and Gerald Stern. Painting's Edge is a two-week intensive workshop in contemporary painting for advanced students and professionals. Visiting faculty artists have included Elizabeth Murray, David Reed, Lydia Dona, Polly Apfelbaum and Terry Winters. At Idyllwild, we’re here to educate the whole you—the artist and the scholar. So that means every weekday morning, starting at 8:00 AM, you’ll be taking a range of academic coursework. Our academic curriculum provides a strong college-preparatory program, challenging you to think critically, to creatively blend your intellectual and artistic perspectives, and to discover a passion for life-long learning. As a result, our graduates are well prepared to enter the leading colleges and universities—as they often do. |
